Home Tutor / Governess Required, QLD POSITION FILLED


We are a family of five who own, live and work on a 40,000 acre sheep station in Outback Queensland. There’s Dad (James), Mum (Hannah - that’s me), Toby (5), George (3) and Hailey (1).

We are a fun loving, energetic family who love spending time together, laughing and playing.

We are seeking a honest, reliable, fun and engaging governess to join the team and help to teach Toby in Prep and George in ekindy through Charleville School of Distance Education in 2019.

The Position

We are looking for an experienced Home Tutor who is confident, organised and fun with the kids. In return, we offer a very attractive and competitive pay package along with fully air-conditioned, self contained accommodation (100m away from main homestead).

We are a family business and life can, at times, get chaotic but we like to have fun along the way.

We see our Home Tutor as another member of the family and welcome them to get involved in station life.


• Qualification or studying Early Childhood Education or Teaching

• Senior First Aid and CPR Certificate

• Working With Children Check in our state (can be applied for upon application)

• ABN (can be applied for upon application)

• Liability Insurance

• Must be 18+ yr old with driver’s licence. We also recommend having your own car for your independence.


Home Tutor for Prep and ekindy , studying via Charleville School Of The Air along with some nannying work for one year old when required.


Prepare and organise the weekly program and schoolroom.

Supervise the children's work and help as required (but do not do the work for them).

We aim to have as much ‘face to face’ experience with the children’s class/school as possible and will attend as many camps, workshops, mini-schools etc as possible. You will be expected to supervise and support our children as necessary during these outings.

This position also includes the following duties and general help:

o You are required to keep the schoolroom and your own quarters in a tidy condition.

o Flexibility with school around mustering etc.

o Water the garden at your cottage.

o Have lots of fun with the kids

We are looking for someone who is focused on providing our children with a fun, educational and stimulating environment, is very well organised, energetic, motivated and flexible.

Working hours are generally 50 hrs per week Monday to Friday(these are flexible and will be negotiated). This position may include some childcare outside normal hours at various busy times.

The position is for a minimum 12 months or to the end of the school year with a one month trial period.

The schoolroom is inside the main house. It is stocked with everything you will need. We expect it to be kept clean and tidy and encourage the children to participate in this by packing up their own desk areas. It has great heating and cooling with split system air conditioners. The room has large windows to provide natural light.


Preston is located 100km south west of Mitchell on the Warrego Highway. We are offering you the unique opportunity to come and work in the true outback ~ emus running through the paddock and kangaroos out your window with the opportunity to get involved in station work if you want to.

We muster by air and on motorbikes - we have many dams to swim in and kayaks you can use in your down time. There are a number of families in our area with Governesses and other staff. We encourage you to get away on some weekends and enjoy some of the locally held events.
