QLD Cattle Station Opportunity, POSITION FILLED


We are a family of five (soon to be six) located on a cattle property between Mitchell and St George in southern Qld.

We are looking for our next amazing govie to help out in our schoolroom, teaching Yr 3, Yr 2 and Prep through the Charleville School of Distance Education.

The Position

We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic and organised person to join the crew in January 2019. The primary roll will be running the "Cunnyana" schoolroom where Georgia (aged 8) is going into grade 3, Parker (aged 6) will be entering grade 2, and Mirren (aged 4) will be starting Prep .

All three children are enrolled through the Charleville School of Distance Education. The role will also involve providing a few hugs for baby number four, who is due to be born in April.

As our governess you will become an extended member of our family it is very important to us that you mesh well with our family and crazy lifestyle.

You will obviously be spending a lot of time with our children so it is important that we consider you a good role model. We need someone who can be organized, flexible, creative, enthusiastic, energetic, tidy, routine driven, all with a good dose of fun.

This is an IHC (In Home Care) position and as such there are certain government requirements that need to be met.

You'll need to have, or currently be studying for, either early childhood or primary teaching qualifications. This could be a Cert 3, Diploma or Bachelor (they all qualify). You must also have a blue card, have passed a national police check and have a current CPR & first aid certificate. These can all be easily obtained if you do not have them at present.

  • Qualification or working towards a qualification in Early Childhood Education or Teaching

  • Senior First Aid and CPR Certificate

  • Prepare and organise the weekly program and schoolroom

  • Supervise the children's work and help as required (but do not do the work for them)

  • Supervise and support our children as necessary during school outings


  • When eating with the family help with dishes, setting table, etc. or helping with bathing

  • Assist in keeping the main house clean and tidy, particularly the children’s areas

  • You are required to keep the schoolroom and your own quarters in a tidy condition and to water the garden at your cottage

  • Flexibility with school around mustering etc

  • Have lots of fun with the kids

We are looking for someone who is focused on providing our children with a fun, educational and stimulating environment; someone who is well organised, energetic, motivated and flexible. Working hours are generally 50 hrs per week Monday to Friday (these are flexible and will be negotiated).

This position may include some childcare outside normal hours at various busy times and is for a minimum of 12 months.


We own & run ‘Cunnyana’, a beef cattle property 130km north of St George in South West Queensland. The property is run as part of a family company, and we also own a property north of Bollon. Life can, at times, get chaotic but we like to have fun along the way.

We see our home tutor as another member of the family and welcome them to get involved in station life.

Whilst we don’t have other staff on property, there are a number of families around who employ governesses and other staff, as well as a local community hall that is very active, with tennis or lawn bowls most Friday nights and numerous functions throughout the year.
