We are an energetic, down to earth family of four who are seeking our first ever Governess.
We are looking for a highly motivated, mature, compassionate and fun-loving person to teach our spirited son for his very first year of school in 2019.
Our family lives in remote South Australia, on a large company owned cattle station.
We are looking for an energetic, highly organised and reliable governess with a genuine love of guiding and supporting children to help them strive to reach their full potential.
Our son’s education is of utmost importance. The ability to problem solve and think outside the box is highly valued.
The successful applicant will live in working quarters with a full kitchen and air conditioning, heating and a television. A landline is available at the kitchen for phone calls. The bathroom and laundry are located 1 metre away from the working quarters.
Your core priorities and responsibilities are as follows:
- Organise and facilitate the Broken Hill School of the Air program for our son as per the school guidelines from 8:30am-3pm with smoko and lunch in between.
- Socialise with other families which may include groups of kids and other governesses during work hours.
- Make life fun while instilling manners, values and morals.
- You must be able to independently manage time and children.
- Effective and constructive communication skills are essential.
- Keep the school house safe, clean and tidy.
In return, the successful applicant will have their living quarters provided along with weekday meals. We offer an hourly rate of $25/ hour.
We have no internet connection through normal providers but you will have access to the paid Wifi.
All employees are required to have, or be willing to obtain prior to the start of their employment, a Senior First Aid Certificate.
A Working with Children's Check and police check (you can do this online) are also required.
Your own vehicle is required.
Quinyambie Station is based in Far North South Australia along the dog fence bordering NSW.
It is approximately 160 km from the nearest town, Broken Hill, and is a great place to work. There are five permanent workers on the station, so plenty of adults to talk to after knocking off time and during breaks.
We often catch up with our neighbours on both sides of the border, or they often come over to our property. The governess is more than welcome to be part of our family and participate in life around the property outside work hours.
As your weekends will be work free (unless needed on the odd occasion), you may want to travel to Broken Hill. There are loads of governesses and backpackers around the area, so your isolation is determined by you. There is also a support network of governesses who attend social gatherings together.
Why you Should Apply
This is fantastic opportunity to support our son, get him excited about learning and to help him to grow into his own person.
An hourly rate along with meals and accommodation make this a great option for saving money for onward travel/ study.
This job is suitable for 417 (backpacker) visa holders.
